Comments (10) I have a backup file with *.bkf extension from operating system that used before. Now I have to restore it, but I have some problem because Windows Vista already installed in my pc. Unfortunately backup file in *.bkf is not builtin anymore in Windows Vista such a Windows XP or either Windows 2003 where just type NtBackup in command prompt then follow the instruction to backup or to restore. Although Windows Vista has a file and setting transfer wizard called Windows Easy Transfer but it can’t be use to restore *.bkf file that created in Windows XP and 2003. Anyway, the question come up is can we restore *.bkf file in Windows Vista ? My answer is absolutely yes.
All you have to do just turn on one of feature in Vista which is Removable Storage Management feature and download NtBackup restore tool in your Vista, and Microsoft has provided and ready to download. The tools are available for 32 bit and 64 bit version, both are downloadable
Now lets turn on the Removable Storage Management feature on your Vista machine.
- Point your mouse to start button-> control panel -> programs then click Turn Windows Features on or off
- Now you have to check the box of Removable Storage Management then press ok button.
Now the feature has activated and you can install Ntbackup tools that downloaded before. If so, you can use it by click the Start button -> Windows NT Backup Restore – Utility -> Ntbackup-RestoreUtility. Then Ntbackup wizard will prompt, now you can use it by clicking Restore Wizard banner then follow the instruction as shown below.
